By the window

The rays of a new day light my room
as I sit idly by the window.

Past memories unfold before me
as I watch the dying trees.

Bereaved, the skies and this earth argue
as I sadly gaze beneath my soul.

Scorned, birds sing soft, untamed melodies,
like some sad line in an ode.

Oh, once upon a life we were true lovers,
but those times now to you are unknown.

The night has brought priceless moments,
but regret is mine to finally own.
